The universe either did not have a beginning or the universe had a beginning. If the universe did not have a beginning, the universe is infinitely old. If the universe is infinitely old, the universe would be in its lowest state of entropy in all, or in large parts of the universe. Yet there are many parts of the universe which are still of higher energy and higher organisation than other parts of the universe. The organisation and lack of universal decay is a strong indication that the universe is not infinitely old.
Then as the universe had a beginning, the beginning was either caused by a natural cause or not a natural cause. If the universe was caused by a natural cause, the creation of the universe is logically circular. For nature would act to create nature and nature would then be both the cause of nature and dependent upon the same nature. But as circular causation is impossible, a natural cause did not create the natural universe.
The cause of the universe was then a supernatural cause. For only a supernatural cause can cause nature, as a process of less (nature) from more (supernatural). Whereby supernature is its own reason of be, as the only necessary be, which can then both account for itself and account for the contingency of nature. The universe was created by a supernatural cause.
And the supernatural cause is unknowable by reason alone in itself, as the intrinsic constitution of the supernature. But the content of the supernatural cause may then be known by faith as from God who reveals the content of the supernatural. The universe itself is then a strong witness to both a supernatural cause and a God who will reveal the content of the supernatural. The universe is then also a strong witness to the theological virtue of faith, whereby faith is a gift from God, to enable men to believe the supernatural content of God as revealed by God, who is the prime truth.
